Abby & Libby Memorial Park

The Heart and Soul of Delphi

The Abby and Libby Memorial Park in Delphi, Indiana was created to honor the memory of Abigail Williams and Liberty German, two young Delphi girls whose lives were senselessly and suddenly taken. They were heartlessly stolen from their families, their loved ones, and their community on the night of February 14, 2017. To this day, their case remains unsolved, and, over the years since that night, the indelible senses of loss and anger felt by the Williams and German families have only been matched with a deluge of sympathy and support from across America. This love continues inundating the small, quiet community of Delphi, IN. Click here to learn more about this journey.

Countless individuals, families, and organizations rallied around the two families and supported them in their time of grief. Many of those same people volunteered their time, energy, and expertise to preserve the memories of Libby and Abby for future generations. Eventually, the two families began shifting their energy to the best ways to honor the young girls’ memories. After pitching the idea of a multi-purpose outdoor park named for Abby and Libby, the families were flooded with volunteers, donations, and general offers of assistance. Whether from regular people who’d read about Abby and Libby and felt moved to action, various small business owners in and around Delphi, or the National Basketball Association, each time the question was the same: “How can we help?”.

The park now has three main recreation areas and counting. A donated playground structure, swings and spring riders were added first. Now a fitness park resides next to the play area. Ideal for teens and adults, outdoor fitness equipment is a great way to offer free exercise resources to the community to better their health and wellbeing. Previous to the construction of the baseball and softball fields, local teams had to travel nearly an hour out of town to play and practice. Now the community can gather in Delphi in support of the players to watch the games. And a walking trail, thanks to the NBA All-Star Legacy Grant, provides a path through the surrounding nature for locals to participate in important physical activity.

The Abby and Libby Memorial Park honors the memory of these two beautiful girls and offers the Delphi community a place to heal. This multi-purpose recreation facility will continue to expand; an amphitheater is coming soon. It has been an honor and privilege to work with the Williams and German families, as well as the entire Delphi community.
