Fly-Fishing Resources for Kids and Beginners

Fly-fishing is a form of fishing that uses lightweight lures called flies to catch fish. They're called flies because they're made to look like insects. When fish see these flies on top of the water, they see a tasty snack and come up to bite. Fly-fishing is a little harder to do than regular fishing because the lure isn't heavy. That means that when you cast, you're not just throwing a heavy lure out into the water. Instead, you'll be throwing a heavier line using a more flexible rod. At the end of the line is a lighter piece that holds the fly. You'll have to practice a bit to get the hang of casting this type of line, but once you get the motion down, you'll be able to catch fish in any kind of water. Just make sure to choose flies that closely mimic what fish are feeding on in the area where you're fishing.
