The Imbarimba features an inspired and unconventional design with a fusion of some of the best elements from two popular African percussion instruments. Its 22 fiberglass keys are struck with mallets to create melodic and happy notes much like a marimba, while the intuitive arrangement of these keys, which minimizes the amount of movement needed to reach each note, is adopted from the kalimba or mbira. The imbaria improves on both of these instruments by adding a series of resonance tubes parallel to the keys, which take up much less space than the upright resonators of a marimba, while allowing the instrument to project its sound much further than a kalimba ever could. These resonators also add to the unique shape and exotic appearance of the Imbarimba, making it aesthetically pleasant even when it isn’t being played. The structure is made entirely from durable components ideal for long-term use and natural outdoor conditions.
